How the WordPress theme detector works

Every WordPress site loads its active theme from a public folder: /wp-content/themes/your-theme/. Our detector finds that folder in the page source, then reads the theme's official style.css header — the same metadata WordPress itself uses to display theme information in the admin dashboard.

That gives us the authoritative theme name, version, author and homepage. If the site uses a child theme, we detect the parent template too, so you know exactly which theme to look for. We also spot the footprints of major plugins like WooCommerce, Elementor and Divi.

WordPress theme detector FAQ

How do I find out what WordPress theme a site is using?+

Paste the site's URL into the WordPress theme detector above. We locate the active theme in the site's code and read its official stylesheet header, giving you the theme name, version, author and more.

Can it detect child themes?+

Yes. If the site runs a child theme, we show both the child theme's details and the parent theme it's based on — useful for knowing which theme to actually buy or download.

Does it detect WordPress plugins too?+

We flag the most popular footprint-leaving plugins: WooCommerce, Elementor, Divi Builder, WP Rocket and Yoast SEO. A full plugin scan isn't possible from public pages alone.

Why can't it find the theme on some WordPress sites?+

Some sites use optimization or security plugins that rewrite asset URLs and hide the theme folder. In those cases we can still confirm the site runs WordPress, but the theme name may be unavailable.

Is this WordPress theme detector free?+

Yes, it's completely free with unlimited checks and no account needed.
